Capitol Butte is one of the largest components of Sedona's backdrop, its mass commanding a strong visual presence. The dome shaped mountain is so named because it resembles the Capitol Building. The west ridge is the easiest way to reach the summit and has a decent trail most of the way. The last part of the route requires some routefinding and 3rd class scrambling. At a moderate pace the round trip doesn't take more than a few hours.
