Colony Baldy is a great winter peak with low avalanche danger and sweet summit views of the nearby Crestone and Kit Carson groups. Unfortunately the Sangres get more than their fair share of Colorado's pesky winter winds and finding a calm day up there would be exceptional.

On this particular trip we got a little more than we bargained for when the near knock-down force wind worsened on the descent, reaching near epic proportions. It probably was not such a good idea to be up there in those conditions.
