The standard southwest buttress route is very well traveled and there are often several easy paths upward.

This peak offers some of the best scenery the Winds have to offer. Not surprisingly, it seems to see several parties a day in the summer.

After descending Fremont we hike past camp and follow the Indian Basin Trail toward the south face of Jackson. We're crossing our fingers that the weather will hold for us to bag a second major peak today.

The south face of Jacson is not inviting. We're looking for a supposed 2nd class ramp system through the cliff bands... not entirely obvious from here.

Teresa starting up a grassy ledge system that we think is the way... we end up climbing up the steepest grass I have every encountered (nearly vertical), traversing exposed ledges, and pulling through at least one 5th class obstacle.

On the descent we followed a cairned route and found the correct ramp system... its rocky, not grassy. And its tough to see from some angles I think. Its further east than the grassy system we went up. We still had to pull one class 4+ move.
