We follow some footprints through a low angle patch of snow. We've been leapfrogging with the solo hiker ahead for quite some time.

A speedy young lad from Idaho on the crux of the southwest couloir. He'd passed on the trail but got nervous at the base of the couloir and waited for reinforcement. It'd rained hard the evening before and there was water running down in places making the rock a bit slick. And I was surprised at how much large loose rock was around given the route's popularity.

Lower sub-summit of the Middle Teton. If this was a few feet higher the climb would have a difficult ending. We did see a sling on it.

South Teton... hmmm, time for a bonus peak I think. Its ONLY 1100 feet above the saddle and we've come ALL this way...

The standard route up South Teton is the Northwest Couloir. It usually requires crossing a steep snow slope but its a dry year.

We scramble over a short section of loose rock to sneak past the remaining snow since we don't have an axe along.

In these conditions the South Teton is easier than the Middle Teton. It is much less popular though.
